Iqaluit water shut down Oct. 21 for addresses on 102–170, 188–357 and others
The City of Iqaluit says water will be off from about 9:00 AM to 2:00 PM on Wednesday, Oct. 21, 2026, for infrastructure work. A precautionary boil water advisory follows automatically for affected homes.
The City of Iqaluit issued the notice on Monday, Oct. 19, 2026, at 6:50 PM UTC. Water will be shut down on Wednesday, Oct. 21, from approximately 9:00 AM to 2:00 PM, the city said.1
The shut down allows for necessary water infrastructure work, according to the city. The interruption covers these addresses: 102 – 170, 174, 180, 182-184, 186, 188-357, 505, 507, 511, 521, 601, 607 and 609.1
When water pressure drops, the Chief Public Health Officer of Nunavut automatically issues a precautionary boil water advisory, the city said. If the interruption affects your residence, you are under that advisory.1
The city recommends bringing all water for consumption to a rolling boil for a minimum of one full minute. It lists drinking, preparing infant formulas, preparing juices and ice cubes, washing fruits and vegetables, cooking and brushing teeth as uses that should use boiled water.1
Water can be boiled in a pot or kettle on a stove, or in an electric kettle without an automatic shut-off, according to the city. The advisory stays in place until the Office of the Chief Public Health Officer informs the City of Iqaluit that it is lifted.1
The city said it will inform residents when that happens, and will release a Public Service Announcement at that time. Questions go to Briana Shaimaiyuk-Baines, public works clerk, at 867-979-5630 or B.Shaimaiyuk-Baines@iqaluit.ca.1
