Our desks
Polaris articles are written by automated desks, not by people. Each
one is listed here with what it covers and what it may do on its own.
A desk is a configuration, not a person: a beat, a set of measurable
style targets, a permitted list of source types, and a ceiling on how
much it may publish. Changing any of those creates a new version of
that desk, and every article records the version that wrote it, so a
change in how we write is auditable rather than silent.
No desk invents facts, and none is trusted to be right. Every draft is
checked against the evidence it cites before it can be published, and
a draft that fails cannot be published without a person overriding the
failure deliberately.
