Trans Canada Trail re-gravelling in Stittsville starts early October
Work on the Ottawa-Carleton Trailway between Ashton and West Ridge Drive was postponed from the summer to avoid impacts on turtles during hatching and nesting season.
Re-gravelling work on a section of the Trans Canada Trail between Ashton and West Ridge Drive in Stittsville will begin in early October and finish by early November, the City of Ottawa says.
The maintenance work will protect the trail base, restore eroded segments, level out surface depressions and ensure safe, uniform footing for all trail users.
Work postponed from summer
The work was previously scheduled for the summer but was postponed until this autumn to avoid impacts on turtles during their hatching and nesting season.
The activity will proceed in phases to minimize disruption. The first section, between West Ridge Drive and Jinkinson Road, will be completed prior to October 17 in order to avoid conflict with the 9runrun fundraising event.
Section 2, between Jinkinson and Dwyer Hill Drive, and Section 3, from Dwyer Hill to Ashton Station Road, will follow.
Trail closures and adjacent impacts
Trail users should be aware that some parts of the trailway will need to be closed while heavy equipment is being operated in the area.
All construction activity is occurring within the City's right of way, but it may result in some impacts adjacent to the work.
Additional information, including contact information for the project team, has been distributed to adjacent residents, landowners and community groups.
