Parade Day closes downtown Calgary streets from 6 a.m. Friday

Calgary's 2026 Stampede Parade will close a stretch of downtown streets on Friday, July 3, with the first closures starting at 6 a.m. and the full route shut by 7:30 a.m., according to the City of Calgary. All parade roadways are expected to reopen by about 2 p.m., once the parade and cleanup are complete and the route is clear and safe for public use.

The closures begin at 6 a.m. for parade setup on 6 St. S.E. between 7 and 9 Ave. S.E., 5 St. S.E. between 7 and 9 Ave. S.E., 6 Ave. S.E. between 3 and 5 St. S.E., 7 Ave. S.E. between 4 and 6 St. S.E., and 8 Ave. S.E. between 4 and 6 St. S.E. At 7:30 a.m., the full route closes: 9 Ave. S.E. between 8 and 3 St. S.E., 4 St. S.E. between 6 and 9 Ave. S.E., 3 St. S.E. between 4 and 9 Ave. S.E., westbound 6 Ave. from 3 St. S.E. to 11 St. S.W., 10 St. S.W. from 6 to 9 Ave. S.W., and eastbound 9 Ave. from 11 St. S.W. to 3 St. S.E.

The morning connector from Bow Trail to westbound 5 Avenue S.W. will be open from 6 to 7 a.m. only. Motorists are encouraged to use alternate routes outside the parade area: from the west, 5 Avenue or 12 Avenue; from the east, avoid East Village and follow detours to 11 Street S.W.; from the north or south, major routes such as Deerfoot Trail, Crowchild Trail, Blackfoot Trail or 16 Avenue. Drivers should follow posted detour signs and traffic control direction on-site.

Parking will be limited. Several Calgary Parking parkades and surface lots along the route will have restricted access, with some closing as early as the day before for event preparation and others closing at 6 a.m. and 7:30 a.m. on Parade Day. Access is to be restored once roads reopen, at about 2 p.m.

Calgary Transit is offering extended service during Stampede, and CTrain service runs 24 hours a day throughout the festival. Downtown stations and nearby stops provide direct access to Stampede Park and major event areas. The city encourages parade spectators to walk, bike or use Calgary Transit to get into the downtown core, and to check routes, schedules and service updates before travelling.

The Stampede runs 10 days, from July 3 to 12, 2026, and road closures will be in place for events across the city during that period. More information is available on calgary.ca/stampede.
