Nominations are open for four Mississauga cycling awards, with a deadline of Friday, January 8, 2027, at 11:59 p.m., the City of Mississauga said. The Mississauga Cycling Advisory Committee (MCAC) presents the awards each year to people, businesses and students who help make cycling safer, more accessible and welcoming.1

The four awards are the Phil Green Recognition Award, the Cycling Equity, Diversity and Inclusion Recognition Award, the Business Recognition Award and the Youth/School Cycling Recognition Award. The Phil Green award goes to a person or group who has made a strong effort to promote or enhance cycling or other forms of sustainable transportation in Mississauga throughout 2026, the city said.1

The award continues to honour Mississauga resident Phil Green, a founding MCAC member who worked diligently to promote safe cycling in Mississauga. The Cycling Equity, Diversity and Inclusion Recognition Award goes to a person or persons who have demonstrated equity, diversity and inclusion while promoting cycling or other forms of sustainable transportation.1

Examples include those who created programs and initiatives to improve access to resources or events for marginalized people, such as people with disabilities and low-income households, and other underrepresented communities in Mississauga. The Business Recognition Award goes to a business or business owner who has demonstrated exemplary effort to promote cycling to employees or customers by breaking down barriers to cycling, which can include providing safe bicycle parking or offering discounts for cyclists.1

The Youth/School Cycling Recognition Award goes to a student or group of students who promoted cycling to their peers or actively set an example for safe cycling in Mississauga. To be eligible for any of the four awards, nominees must be a Mississauga resident, the city said.1

Neither the nominee nor an immediate family member can be a current MCAC member or have served on MCAC during the current council term. They or any member of their immediate family cannot be employed with the City of Mississauga or Region of Peel in any capacity related to cycling or sustainable transportation, and they cannot have received an MCAC award in the past four years.1

To nominate a person or a group, submit a written recommendation to MCAC explaining why they deserve the award. Self-nominations are permitted. The nomination must include a completed nomination form, a description of the nominee’s contribution, at least two letters from individuals or organizations in support of the nomination and any additional supporting documentation.1

Nomination forms are available for each award and must be submitted to cycling@mississauga.ca. MCAC will review the nominations and select the winning residents or groups. The winners will be announced and recognized at a City Council meeting in spring 2027.1
