Mississauga Council Cuts Park Fee for Camilla Road Townhouses to $225,000

Mississauga City Council approved a reduction in the park enhancement contribution for a planned townhouse development at 2020 and 2040 Camilla Road, cutting the amount to $225,000 from $450,000. Council made the decision at its meeting on Wednesday, Sept. 16, 2026, according to a recap published Wednesday, Sept. 23 at 6 p.m. UTC.

The original approval required the $450,000 contribution toward improvements to Hancock Woodlands Park. Council reduced it after considering changes to city-wide amenity area requirements and the developer's commitment to move forward with construction in a timely manner, the City said.

The development was previously approved for 144 back-to-back stacked townhouse units. It will provide on-site amenity space exceeding the minimum 250 square metres required, according to the City.

Council also directed staff to evaluate options to help businesses facing financial pressures from ongoing U.S. tariffs and trade uncertainty. The review will examine tax relief measures, economic development initiatives and investment programs, and staff will report back with options for a tariff response plan.

The review will look at property tax relief and payment options for the 2027 tax year, and will explore property tax deferral programs for businesses experiencing tariff-related hardship. It will also consider application-based tax instalment deferrals and other financial assistance tools.

On tobacco and vapour products, Council directed staff to review how the City regulates businesses that sell and distribute them. The review will explore stronger municipal licensing requirements, compliance monitoring and measures to prevent youth access, with staff working with Peel Public Health before reporting back with recommendations.

Staff will also review the City's authority to regulate warehouse, storage, fulfilment, online order and delivery operations associated with tobacco and vapour products, not only retail stores.
