Iqaluit water shut down Sept. 11 for infrastructure work, boil advisory follows

The City of Iqaluit says water will be shut down on Sept. 11 from approximately 9:00 AM to 5:00 PM to allow for necessary water infrastructure work, affecting addresses at 504, 506, 508, 513, 515, 517, 519, 5000 to 5099, 5300, 5302, 5304, 5306 to 5610, 5612A-C, 5614, 5618 A-F, 5320, 5322 A-J, 5324 A-J and 5326 A-F.

The city announced the shut down in a public service announcement dated Sept. 9, 2026. When water pressure drops, the Chief Public Health Officer of Nunavut automatically issues a precautionary boil water advisory, and the city says anyone whose residence is affected by the interruption is under that advisory.

During a precautionary boil water advisory, the city recommends bringing all water for consumption to a rolling boil for a minimum of one full minute. It recommends boiling water for drinking, preparing infant formulas, preparing juices and ice cubes, washing fruits and vegetables, cooking and brushing teeth.

Water can be boiled in a pot or kettle on a stove, or in an electric kettle without an automatic shut-off. The city says it will release a public service announcement when the advisory is lifted, and will inform residents once the Office of the Chief Public Health Officer says the advisory is over.
