Cowichan Valley curbside collection can be cancelled in snow or ice from Oct. 15 to April 1
The regional district says extreme weather may stop trucks on your regular collection day, and it has set out what you can put out instead and how much it can weigh.
Curbside collection in the Cowichan Valley Regional District can be cancelled on your regular day when snow, ice or flooding stops the trucks, under an inclement weather policy in effect from Oct. 15 to April 1, 2027. The district said extreme weather events or acts of nature may impede drivers from providing regularly scheduled service.1
The district will post service disruptions on its website at cvrd.ca, on its Facebook page at @mycvrd and on the Cowichan Recycles App, available from the Google Play Store and the Apple App Store. If drivers cannot provide collection because of the weather, you can hold onto your material until the next scheduled collection day.1
Extra recyclables go in clearly marked containers such as laundry hampers, cardboard boxes or garbage cans. No plastic bags. Extra garbage goes in a clearly marked, sturdy container beside your tote, and bags of garbage must not be placed on the ground. Extra organics go in a clearly marked, sturdy container beside your tote. Extra glass goes in a sturdy container or laundry hamper, with no cardboard boxes.1
Each container holding extra material must weigh less than 20 kg (44 lbs.), the district said, because the curbside drivers will need to lift it by hand.1
The other option is to call the Recycling Hotline to arrange to take your extra material to a CVRD Recycling Centre. The hotline number is 250-746-2540, and questions can also go to curbside@cvrd.bc.ca.1
The policy runs from Oct. 15 to April 1, 2027.1
