Calgary police seek dashcam footage after Deerfoot Trail rollover

Calgary police are asking the public for dashcam footage from northbound Deerfoot Trail in the moments before a single-vehicle collision earlier this month that sent three passengers to hospital with serious injuries.

At approximately 12:05 a.m. on Saturday, Sept. 5, 2026, a blue Subaru WRX was travelling north on Deerfoot Trail, approaching an unrelated collision scene that had temporarily closed the road, according to the City of Calgary. The driver attempted to exit onto 17 Avenue S to avoid the closure, lost control and rolled several times.

What investigators say happened

The vehicle narrowly missed first responders and road crews at the scene who were responding to the earlier collision. Two passengers were ejected. A 14-year-old girl and a 19-year-old woman were transported to hospital with serious, life-altering injuries, and a 23-year-old man was also transported with serious injuries.

The driver, a 21-year-old man, was taken into custody and transported to hospital with minor injuries. The two men and the 14-year-old girl have since been released from hospital. The 19-year-old woman remains in hospital in serious but stable condition.

Speed and alcohol are believed to be factors in the collision. After speaking with witnesses, investigators believe several vehicles may have been racing before the collision.
