A flat $9.50 fare for larger taxis in Saskatoon takes effect Oct. 26, replacing a van rate the City of Saskatoon says had been in place for approximately 20 years. The new Large Vehicle Fare applies to any taxi with third-row seating.1

Under the old system, van taxis charged 1.5 times the standard taxi fare when carrying more passengers or luggage than a sedan taxi could hold. The city said that charge was meant to recover the extra cost of running a larger vehicle.1

The $9.50 applies whenever you request a larger taxi directly through dispatch, for any reason, or hail one curbside with five or more passengers. The city said the new fare better reflects current operating and ownership costs of larger vehicles compared with sedan taxis.1

The city said the updated structure gives passengers more consistency and transparency and brings fares closer to the cost of providing larger vehicle service. More information is posted at Saskatoon.ca/vfh.1

The change takes effect Oct. 26.1
