Newfoundland and Labrador residents get an extra hour this weekend, with clocks turning back at 2:00 a.m. on Sunday, November 1, the provincial government said in a public advisory issued Oct. 30.1

The advisory encourages residents to use the clock change to replace the batteries in smoke alarms and carbon monoxide detectors.1

The Fire Services Division of the Department of Forestry, Agriculture and Lands advises that smoke alarms be installed on every level of a home, including the basement, in every bedroom and in the hallway or room outside each sleeping area.1

Households or cabins with a wood, oil or propane fuel-fired appliance should also have a carbon monoxide detector on each level of the structure, the division recommends.1
