Garage fire on Mike Ralph Way SW displaces Calgary home's occupants
Calgary Fire says flames spread from two burning vehicles into the house and attic. No one was found inside and no injuries were reported.
Calgary Fire crews responded to a structure fire in the 0-100 block of Mike Ralph Way SW at around 2 p.m. on Oct. 28, the City of Calgary said. Crews arrived at a two-storey residential home with a front attached garage and found large flames coming from the garage area.1
Two vehicles on the driveway were on fire, and flames were spreading rapidly up the front exterior of the home and into the second floor, the city said. Firefighters stretched hose lines to knock back the fire while others entered the home to attack the fire from inside and search for occupants.1
Zero visibility on the second floor
Crews reported zero visibility and heavy smoke conditions throughout the second floor, and the fire had spread to the attic space and roof area, according to the city. No occupants were found inside and no injuries were reported.1
Fire crews set up a ladder truck water tower and shifted tactics to apply large volume water from the exterior, the city said. Once the fire was sufficiently knocked down, firefighters re-entered the home to extinguish remaining hot spots.1
Damage and displacement
The source home sustained heavy damage and its occupants will be displaced, the city said. The two neighbouring homes are being assessed for heat damage.1
Calgary Police Services, Emergency Health Services Alberta, ATCO Gas and Enmax all attended the scene, according to the city.1
A fire investigator is on scene and has begun investigating the origin and cause of the fire, the city said. A fire watch crew is also on scene to monitor conditions.1
