Ethicon recalls PERMA-HAND Silk Suture over unapproved tubing fluid

Ethicon has recalled PERMA-HAND Silk Suture after determining the product was incorrectly manufactured with an alcohol-based tubing fluid in the primary packaging, according to a Health Canada recall notice published Sept. 25, 2026.
The fluid is a solution of isopropyl alcohol, diethylaminoethanol and sodium benzoate previously used in the manufacture of a different suture product, and tubing fluid is not a material approved for use in the manufacture of PERMA-HAND Silk Suture, the notice says.
Up to 80 per cent of the impacted lot may have had the alcohol-based tubing fluid, according to the notice.
