VPD arrests Raymond Desorcy, 55, on Canada-wide warrants after 2023 crash death

Vancouver police say Desorcy, wanted since he failed to appear for sentencing in 2025, was arrested before dawn on Oct. 15, 2026, and now faces a breach charge after drugs were allegedly found on him.

The Vancouver Police Department says it has arrested Raymond Desorcy, a 55-year-old man wanted on two Canada-wide warrants, in connection with a 2023 crash in Vancouver that killed an 18-year-old woman named Dana Oh. The department said its Fugitive Team found and arrested Desorcy without incident just before dawn on Thursday, Oct. 15, 2026, as he left a coffee shop near Granville Street and West Georgia Street in downtown Vancouver.1

According to the department, officers had been looking for Desorcy since last December. He had pleaded guilty to Dangerous Operation of a Conveyance Causing Death, a charge that means driving dangerously in a way that results in someone's death, and then failed to appear for a sentencing hearing in 2025, at which point a warrant was issued for his arrest.1

What the court heard

The department said that when Desorcy's guilty plea was entered, the court heard evidence that he had been distracted by his cell phone and was speeding on Oct. 7, 2023, when he drove through a red light at Granville Street and King Edward Avenue and collided with a BMW sedan that was turning left. Oh was in the back seat of the BMW and suffered what the department described as catastrophic injuries. She died six days later in hospital, and another passenger in the BMW suffered serious injuries.1

The department said the teenager could only be extricated after the "jaws of life" were used to remove the vehicle's side doors. The jaws of life are a hydraulic rescue tool used to cut open a vehicle and free people trapped inside.1

New charge and custody

During his arrest on Oct. 15, 2026, Desorcy was allegedly in possession of non-prescription drugs and has now been charged with breach of a release order, the department said. He remains in custody awaiting a bail hearing.1

The department said Desorcy has a lifetime firearms prohibition and more than 30 criminal convictions dating back to 1989, including for impaired driving, assault, break and enter, robbery and uttering threats. He was found guilty of seven counts of robbery in Edmonton in 2014 and was released from prison in 2020, according to the department.1
