The Canada Industrial Relations Board announced on Nov. 6 that its directive on the suspension of regulatory time limits during the holiday period is now permanent and will apply automatically each year, without the need for annual renewal.1

Under the directive, regulatory time limits are suspended annually from Dec. 21 to Jan. 7, inclusively, and the calculation of time limits resumes on Jan. 8.1

The suspension does not apply to statutory deadlines for filing complaints or applications under the Canada Labour Code, to certain priority matters, or to deadlines the Board establishes in an order or directive, unless otherwise specified.1

The Board encouraged parties to consult the CIRB Directive on the Suspension of Time Limits contained in the Regulations During the Holiday Period for further details, including applicable exceptions.1
