Retail sales reached $76.3 billion in August, an increase of 4.5 per cent compared with the same month one year earlier, Statistics Canada said. Higher sales were reported in 15 of the 18 commodity classes.1

The agency published the figures on Nov. 6. The release does not state whether the dollar figures are seasonally adjusted, and it gives no monthly comparison, so the August level cannot be read as a trend from July.1
