Abbotsford moves solid waste fees onto utility bills starting Jan. 1, 2027
The City of Abbotsford says solid waste charges will be collected alongside water and sewer charges instead of on annual property tax notices, with the first bills arriving at the end of March or April 2027.
Solid waste fees in Abbotsford will be collected at the same time as water and sewer charges beginning Jan. 1, 2027, the City of Abbotsford said, moving the charges off the annual property tax notice.1
Residents who receive bi-monthly utility billing will see solid waste charges on their first utility bill issued at the end of March 2027, according to the city. Residents in the Clearbrook area, who receive utility bills quarterly, will see the change on their first bill issued at the end of April 2027.1
The city said the change happens automatically and lets residents track fees and spread payments through the year instead of paying one lump sum on their tax notice. It also allows services to be updated or stopped when customers move or suspend solid waste collection.1
Discounted rates will be available for customers who pay on the due date or before, similar to the current approach for water usage charges, the city said.1
The city pointed residents to a Solid Waste Utility Billing Frequently Asked Questions page for more information. Media questions go to Aletta Vanderheyden, communications and public relations manager for the City of Abbotsford.1
