The Vancouver Police Department has notified the Independent Investigations Office following a fatal collision in downtown Vancouver, according to a VPD statement published Sept. 12, 2026.
The statement says that at approximately 3 p.m. VPD officers were on foot in the 1000 block of Canada Place investigating a fraud, and that they attempted to speak with a male suspect in a vehicle, but he drove away.
According to the same statement, less than a block from the scene the vehicle was involved in a collision and the driver died. No one else was injured, the VPD says.
The IIO has assumed conduct of the investigation, the statement says, and further requests for information can be directed to the IIO.
