Retail sales reached $78.4 billion in June, an increase of 7.2 per cent compared with the same month one year earlier, Statistics Canada reported Sept. 8.1
Higher sales were reported in 17 of the 18 commodity classes. The agency did not state whether the figure is seasonally adjusted, and the release gives no monthly comparison, so the one-year change is the only basis for the move.1
