Newfoundland and Labrador opens consultations on rural revitalization strategy
The provincial government is inviting residents, municipalities, Indigenous governments and businesses to consultation sessions, an online questionnaire or written submissions.
Newfoundland and Labrador's provincial government is developing a Rural Revitalization Strategy and is asking people across the province to help shape it, the government said in a public advisory published Nov. 5. Residents, municipalities, Indigenous Governments and Organizations, businesses, community groups and local leaders are invited to share the opportunities, challenges and priorities that matter most in their communities, the advisory says.1
The government said it will hold consultation sessions in person and virtually throughout Newfoundland and Labrador, and that it will be in St. John's on Monday, Nov. 9. People can register for a session, and venue address details will be emailed to registered attendees 24 hours ahead of the event, the advisory says.1
Those who prefer not to attend a session can complete an online questionnaire at EngageNL or provide a written submission by mail or email, the government said. Written submissions may be emailed to RuralRevitalization@gov.nl.ca or mailed to the Rural Revitalization Strategy office at the Natural Resources Building, 50 Elizabeth Avenue, P.O. Box 8700, St. John's, NL A1B 4J6.1
The government said the strategy supports its commitment to a region-by-region approach to fostering sustainable economic growth and stronger rural communities. The advisory did not give a closing date for submissions, a timeline for the strategy or say whether legislation is required.1
