New Waterford wellness centre stays open as school strike nears

The Cape Breton Regional Municipality says the centre's programs, services and bookings will continue as planned when school support staff strike action begins Monday, November 2.

The New Waterford Community Wellness Centre will remain open when school support staff strike action begins on Monday, November 2, the Cape Breton Regional Municipality said in a notice issued at 7:10 p.m. UTC on Friday, October 30.1

All programs, services and scheduled facility bookings will continue as planned, the municipality said. Because the wellness centre is connected to the school, access and operations may be affected if circumstances change.1

Staff will monitor the situation and provide updates as required, the notice says. Tenants, program providers and rental groups will be notified directly of any operational changes that may affect their activities.1

Visitors are asked to respect all individuals and activities associated with the facility and surrounding area, the municipality said.1
