Iqaluit arena turf comes out as city prepares for trade show and ice
The City of Iqaluit says the Arctic Winter Games Arena is closed to the public while the floor is prepared for the Nunavut Trade Show, with ice activities anticipated to begin in mid-October.
The City of Iqaluit says the turf has been removed from the Arctic Winter Games Arena, effective immediately, and turf activities have concluded for the season. The arena is closed to the public for use during the transition, according to a public service announcement the city published Sept. 8, 2026.1
The arena floor is being prepared for the Baffin Regional Chamber of Commerce's Nunavut Trade Show, which takes place next week. The Youth Centre and BeaverTails remain open.1
Work to prepare the facility for ice installation will begin after the trade show, and the city says ice activities are anticipated to begin in mid-October. The city will provide an update by the end of September on anticipated ice availability, rentals and programming.1
