IIHF keeps its disagreement with CAS ruling on Russian teams
The federation says reintegrating Russian teams immediately poses visa, security and logistical problems, with some events only weeks away.
The International Ice Hockey Federation says it maintains its disagreement with the Court of Arbitration for Sport decision and will keep monitoring what the ruling means for the affected IIHF World Championships.1
The federation said the immediate reintegration of Russian teams, as presented to the CAS, presents significant practical and sporting challenges. It listed visa and entry requirements, security provisions, logistical constraints and consequences for competition formats, all compounded by the limited time available, with some events only weeks away.1
The IIHF said the global impact of the CAS Panel's decision and the challenges it creates for all involved were significantly underestimated.1
The IIHF Council remains in dialogue with Member National Associations, organizing committees, host authorities and other key stakeholders to determine the best way forward, the federation said.1
The foremost priorities remain the safety and security of all participants, teams, officials and fans, the smooth operation of the Championships and the integrity of the competitions.1International Ice Hockey Federation
