Edmonton police seek help identifying two suspects in late-August assault

The Edmonton Police Service is asking the public to help identify two suspects in an assault that left an adult male in hospital with serious injuries, according to a release from the service.

West Branch patrol officers responded to a report of an assault near 174 Street and 77 Avenue at approximately 2:50 a.m. on Aug. 31, 2026, the release states. On arrival, officers located an injured adult male lying on the sidewalk suffering from significant head injuries, and EMS transported him to hospital for treatment, where he remains with serious injuries.

Investigators have since obtained surveillance footage that shows an altercation between the victim and two unidentified male suspects shortly before the assault occurred, according to the release. Police are asking members of the public to contact them immediately if they are aware of the suspects' identities and locations.

The release describes the first male suspect as having a slim build with ear-length dark hair, wearing a black or grey hooded jacket with a reflective stripe across the back similar to a construction vest, along with a white shirt, black pants, black shoes and white socks. The second male suspect is described as wearing a black hoodie and black pants. Police believe the two individuals removed their jackets a short time later, as pictured in a black and white CCTV image.

Police believe witnesses may have been in the area at the time of the assault and are asking anyone with information, dash camera footage or surveillance video from the area between 2:30 a.m. and 3 a.m. on Aug. 31, 2026, to come forward.
