The Edmonton Police Service said a 29-year-old man has been charged with two counts of arson in relation to a deliberately set fire at a building in the area of 82 Avenue and Gateway Blvd. in southwest Edmonton. According to the police service, Narayan Bergstrom, 29, was charged on Wednesday, Sept. 23, 2026.1

The Edmonton Police Service said its Southwest Branch patrol officers were contacted by Edmonton Fire Rescue Service on June 25, 2026, regarding the fire. Investigators have since determined that two fires were set at the location between 7:40 p.m. and 9:45 p.m., with the second fire causing extensive damage to the structure, according to the police service.1

No injuries were reported and no neighbouring structures were impacted, the Edmonton Police Service said. Following a review of area video, the police service said footage was captured of an unknown male around the time of both fires, and a media release was issued in the hope that someone might recognize him.1

The Edmonton Police Service said the man has since been successfully identified as Narayan Bergstrom, 29. Police said they are not searching for any other suspects and no further charges are expected at this time.1
