The total value of building permits issued in Canada rose $1.1 billion, or 8.8 per cent, to $13.6 billion in August, Statistics Canada said on Oct. 14.1

The agency did not state the July level the August figure is measured against, nor whether the $13.6 billion is seasonally adjusted. A single monthly move is not a trend, and the national total does not show how permit value was distributed across provinces or municipalities.1
