Canada's merchandise trade surplus widens to $4.2 billion in May

Exports rose 0.9 per cent while imports edged down 0.2 per cent, Statistics Canada reported July 7.

Canada's merchandise trade surplus with the world widened to $4.2 billion in May from $3.4 billion in April, Statistics Canada reported July 7. Exports increased 0.9 per cent in the month, while imports edged down 0.2 per cent.1

The agency did not state whether the figures were seasonally adjusted, and the release gives no year-earlier comparison for exports, imports or the surplus. It also does not break the totals down by province, territory or trading partner.1
