The BC Wildfire Service will rescind the area restriction for the Ezra Creek area at 12 p.m. PT on Friday, Sept. 18, 2026. The service issued the notice on Sept. 17, 2026.
The Ezra Creek wildfire (N51938) is estimated at 143 hectares and sits about 7.5 km northeast of Castlegar. Fire behaviour and activity has decreased, and firefighting personnel no longer need to restrict public access, the service said.
The service said the wildfire remains an active worksite. People entering the area should watch for unstable fire-damaged trees that could fall and ash pits that can stay hot long after flames die down.
Under the Wildfire Act and its regulations, officials can still order anyone to leave the area. Smoke may be seen within the fire's perimeter over the coming weeks, which the service said is common.
Smoke rising from green, unburned fuel or from outside the perimeter should be reported immediately. The service said road closures and area restrictions can change with fire activity.
